Step II: Add your scraps and sprinkle on some powder.

Unlike most composting systems, it is safe to add the leftovers from your meals to the bokashi bucket.  You can add any organic material, including fish, meat, bones, and egg shells (in addition, of course, to vegetables and fruits and peels.  You can add as much as you'd like daily, and it only takes a small amount of powder to start the fermentation process and reduce the small.

Step III: Add pressure plate, seal, and forget.

Once you've added your food scraps, simply place the pressure plate over the scraps and let gravity seal the scraps to start the anaerobic fermentation process (and lock in any smell!).  finally, seal the lid of the bucket (included in the kit

Step IV: When the bucket is full, swap buckets.

A full, sealed bucket takes 1-2 weeks to fully ferment, depending on the temperature.  While one bucket is fermenting, being to fill the second bucket.  The buckets are about the right size to make sure that you're never caught without a place to put your scraps, and buckets can be left alone inside or outside while fermenting.

Bokashi makes nutrient-rich soil!

Step V: Enrich your garden soil with bokashi

When a bucket has completed fermentation (which takes 1-2 weeks), simply open the lid and pour the contents into the garden.  The food scraps will have completely fermented into a nutrient-rich soil that you can safely add to any garden, or even simply throw under a tree as mulch!  The soil won't have a bad smell, and will blend right in.
